Exploring 80 Acres

Join me on a tour of 80 Acre Market and it's amazing views, architecture, and most of all.... shopping.

Walking up to 80 Acre Market, you are struck by the stunning French Provencal mansion sprawling across an expansive green lawn, but as you soak it all in, you are struck with something else, as well. A quiet calm, reminiscent of yesteryear, creeps into your soul.  Here, families gather together to share a meal, kids squeal in bouncy houses, and screen time seems a thing of the past.

That sense of serenity reflects what owner Josh Smallwood had in mind when he converted his family home into a space that gives back to the community that helped raise him.

Welcome to Gilmer, Texas, a charming town nestled in the heart of East Texas, quietly becoming known for this small sanctuary in the middle of 80 acres. While the converted home turned market offers beautiful home decor items for sale, from flatware and jewelry to pillows and handbags, it also offers families a place to come together and enjoy the sunshine.  Guests and vendors alike enjoy the space free of charge.

The wares the market sales change over every two weeks so there is always something new for shoppers to discover, and local vendors are  invited to sell plants, baked goods, crafts and more. Outside on the lawn, local food trucks and live music play amidst bouncy houses and playgrounds, adding to the nostalgic ambiance.

My girl friends and I had a wonderful afternoon shopping room to room through the stunning home and eating outside on picnic benches.  We, of course, came home with lots of goodies, and it’s a road trip we’re likely to repeat soon!

If you are planning a girl’s trip any time soon, here are a few faves to pack for the road!
